Mount Vernon

George Washington had many roles in our History. He was a Major for the British army during the French and Indian War. He was also the Commander of the Continental Congress, elected the President of the Constitutional Convention, and as everyone knows, he was the first President of the United States of America.

How cool it was to have the chance to visit his home in Alexandria, VA. His home was right on the Potomac River. He was not in residence here much during his Presidency, but afterwards he had his hands in many activities. He was a gardener and sheep breeder. He also had his own distillery at Mount Vernon, where he made whiskey.

Mrs. Fleenor and I visited Mount Vernon on Mother's Day in 2007. It was a bright and sun-shiny day. There were so many people out to enjoy the day and learn about Washington's history as a founding father of our country. I enjoyed it because I got to speak with Martha Washington, who is in the picture below. She even asked me what my name was!
